Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my thoughts on the Conservatives’ plans to overturn the current ban on hunting.
If the Conservatives win at the next general election, David Cameron intends to reinstate hunting as a sport, being a keen huntsman himself.
After 80 years of campaigning for hunting to be banned, Cameron could re-introduce fox, mink, deer and hare hunting which use barbaric methods to kill these animals.
Hunts claim that they are controlling these animals’ populations, but in actual fact figures show that evidence to show the fox in particular, is a significant pest nationally, are very low.
Even if land owners believe “pest” population on their land is too high and needs to be controlled, there are more humane ways of killing the animals (usually shooting) than chasing the animal with dogs until it is too tired to run any further and is then savaged.
Websites such as www.facct.org.uk and www.league.org.uk give more detailed information into Cameron’s plans to bring back hunting and the perils of this “sport”.
I would urge anyone considering voting for the Tories in the next general election, to reconsider their choice and think about the risk this will pose to thousands of animals in the wild.
Yours Faithfully,
(Your name).
