"David has been stalking deer for 20 years or more.
He is very good with a gun. I have seen him shoot a stag. He has the "right-left" knack whereby you shoot two deer in one go before they run off. Only the best stalkers can do that."
Bruce Anderson, a close friend of David Cameron
David Cameron and Hunting
David Cameron, or "Deerstalker Dave" as he has been dubbed by the London Evening Standard, not only supports hunting, but is an active participant.
He has hunted with the Heythrop Hunt at least six times and regularly participates in the shooting of pheasants and deer.
David Cameron regularly takes trips to the vast Scottish estate owned by his wife's stepfather, Lord Astor, where the deer population outnumbers humans 30 to one. There, he entertains himself by hunting these majestic creatures for entertainment. When asked about his love of holidaying on the estate, David Cameron stated that he enjoyed the swimming there. He neglected to mention that he also enjoys the killing and dismembering of wild animals, as he knows well that the public would find this abhorrent.
Lord Astor, owner of the estate and stepfather of Cameron's wife, is also the Vice-Chairman of the Repeal Committee which are currently fighting to get the Hunting Act overturned so that hunting with dogs will be legal once more. There can be no doubt that David Cameron would push for a repeal and for the Act to be abolished should he get into power.

"Repeal of the Hunting Act clearly remains a hot issue in the Cameron family. Lord Astor, a regular with the Old Berkshire Hunt, who is married to the mother of Samantha Cameron, has agreed to become vice-chairman of the Repeal Committee, which is to lead the campaign to scrap the ban on the sport. So Dave knows that if he wants to keep the inlaws happy, one of his first deeds, in the event of a Conservative election victory, will be to give Parliament a chance to remove the Act from the statute."
Deer stalking is not for the faint-hearted. By tradition, when a stalker shoots his or her first stag, the marksman is 'blooded' with the animal's blood smeared over them.
The animal is then 'gralloched' - the Highland term for disembowelled.
